IAMKELO- Essentials

What’s that saying about short songs, that “the shorter the song, the harder it bangs”?

And how goes the saying about short songs in Sesotho? That it’s “somewhat of a spiritual ascension”- a saying that is highly eminent in IAMKELO’s newly dropped mixtape Essentials!

Originating from the 016 from a small suburban town, Waldrift in the Vaal, IAMKELO features Stanley Kay and Teddy Brigado in revitalising our eardrums with a mixtape backpacked with questions of liberation, candid expressions and well, many other fine-tuned personal essentials.

With well-built head bopping boom baps, smooth in-song snare transitions and a rich ‘Old Skool’ rapping flow, Kay-lo (as adlibbed in his songs) invites us to listen to personal progressive stories of defeat and relinquishment that is conquered by his faith in God, his musical talent, and his overall self.

Through listening one cannot help becoming pedantic over the lyricism and categorise topics covered in the mixtape, for example, in Breek- one could conclude a general message of “slow down, your time is coming” with an additional theme of unity, brotherhood and empathy geared in relation to building dreams.

As I stop from getting way to ahead of myself and feeding you my personal interpretation and feel, give the 9 tracked mixtape a listen on all streaming platforms.
